NYC, 2016, oil on linen 22.5 x 29.5

Thinking about what to paint can be exhausting. I envy religious painters, with their inexhaustible source of material.

I painted this in New York at the Art Students League. I stretched linen over a homemade frame and sized it with rabbit skin glue and carried it with me as I traveled from Boston. I wandered into the Metropolitan Museum of Art on my way to the Art Students League with the object in hand; just a blank picture. I received a very strange reaction from the security guard, who jokingly asked if I was attempting some sort of modern art. The woman at the coat check said it was beautiful.
