Suakin, 2013, oil on cotton, 18 x 24
Suakin is the most interesting place I have ever been. Seriously. It's so interesting that I wrote an entire research paper about Suakin and submitted it to the PhD program in Islamic Art & Architecture at Harvard. I did not get accepted.
I like the kind of lines found in ruins. This painting always works for me. It doesn't make me think of Suakin at all, but I don't care.
